Professor Mills Class Introduction to Building Constructions lays foundations for success.

Learning to be involved beyond the classroom is another element Mills introduces, and his students work in teams to get involved with a variety of community service activities.

As fall semester gets into full swing, Associate Professor Thomas Mills, MLSoC Faculty, is busy welcoming the incoming class of building construction students. Mills is responsible for teaching BC 1224: Introduction to Building Construction, a required course for all first-year students in building construction that provides a foundation for success in the university and their careers.

MLSoC Participation and Awards at the CII Conference in Orlando

Drs. de la Garza and Taylor, award recipients at the recent Construction Industry Institute (CII) Annual conference held in Orlando July 29-31.

Dr. de la Garza was the ninth recipient of the Richard L. Tucker Leadership and Service Award. His participation on CII research teams and activities for nearly three decades made him a model of service both to CII and the Industry. In addition to this esteemed honor, Dr. de la Garza also was awarded as Outstanding CII Instructor for 2013 in recognition for his contributions to engineering, to teaching and to the industry. Tyler Shawcross Service Leadership Award Established

Tyler Shawcross takes Virginia Tech's motto, "Ut Prosim" (That I may serve) to a whole new level.

A recent Construction Engineering & Management (CEM) graduate, Tyler Shawcross takes Virginia Tech's motto, "Ut Prosim" (That I may serve) to a whole new level. To merely say that Tyler was an active volunteer with the local Habitat for Humanity chapter would be a tremendous understatement. The Spring 2023 MLSoC Hardhatting Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Moss Arts Center, located at 190 Alumni Mall, Blacksburg, VA 24061. The ceremony will begin at 4:00 P.M. and will be followed by a reception for graduates and their families. Doors will open at 3 p.m.

The ceremony will begin at 4:00 P.M. and will be followed by a reception for graduates and their families. We ask that students arrive by 3 p.m. so we can line them up.

As part of thier senior requirements, Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) students take our Capstone Course where they apply theory over two semesters working collaboratively to develop a competitive proposal summarizing their design and construction solutions.  The top five team finalists present to industry leaders on Capstone Day.
