Director's Welcome Message

History

Long-standing relationships are unique among friends. Books are written about such distinctive friendships. And, for Virginia Tech, the more than 30-year friendship between A. Ross Myers and John R. Lawson, II, that started in their college days in Blacksburg is a dream come true. The two alumni who met as Virginia Tech undergraduates and members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity are sharing equally in a $10 million pledge to found the Virginia Tech School of Construction at their alma mater.

About Our Graphic Element

What better symbol for construction than the Hokie Stone, a Southwestern Virginia limestone designed into a Neo-gothic Campus built environment. The Hokie Stone structure represents the resilience and sustainability of our mission. The arrangement of the stones represents both vertical and horizontal construction and is inspired by the initials of our co-founders, Ross Myers and John Lawson.  The element applies these Virginia Tech palette colors:  Hokie Stone Grey, Landgrant Grey, Skipper Smoke, Virginia Sunset, Yardline White, and Black.

Mission

Our mission is to be the constant beacon for innovation and excellence for the construction industry, and the educational community, for construction education, research, values-based leadership, and to serve local and global communities (Ut Prosim).

Vision

Our vision is to produce tomorrow’s innovative and entrepreneurial leaders, to help define and improve tomorrow’s industry, and to make tomorrow better than today through our service to society, and the world.  We aim to build upon our reputation as the most unique, and a top School in the Nation to be highly recognized as one of the top Schools of Construction internationally.
