Sydney chose CEM because it allowed her to earn a technical engineering degree while gaining management experience. The Student Engineers' Council at Virginia Tech awarded $15,000 to Dr. Keresh Afsari. Dr. Afsari and her ARCADE Lab students, Srijeet Halder and Ryan King, focused their proposal on improving ARCADE and students' robotics experience in the lab. Join us for virtual capstone presentations - Our capstone projects simulate the competitive Design-Build (DB) process, where the Owner will select a DB partner based on evaluation of competitive bid proposals and final project interviews (Capstone Day presentations). In this simulation, student teams represent the construction side of the DB entity (i.e. the primary contractor) and MLSoC Industry Partners represent the Owner. Faculty and students in the Myers-Lawson School of Construction (MLSoC) and Virginia Center for Housing Research (VCHR) are analyzing sustainable, quality, and low-cost approaches to help solve the affordability crisis in Virginia and across the nation. The Spring 2023 MLSoC Hardhatting Ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Moss Arts Center, located at 190 Alumni Mall, Blacksburg, VA 24061. The ceremony will begin at 4:00 P.M. and will be followed by a reception for graduates and their families. Doors will open at 3 p.m.

The Fall 2022 MLSoC Hardhatting Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at the Lyric Theatre, located at 135 College Ave, Blacksburg, VA 24060. The ceremony will begin at 4:00 P.M. and will be followed by a reception for graduates and their families. We ask that students arrive by 3 p.m. so we can line them up.

As part of thier senior requirements, Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) students take our Capstone Course where they apply theory over two semesters working collaboratively to develop a competitive proposal summarizing their design and construction solutions. The top five team finalists present to industry leaders on Capstone Day. Learn more about the requirements here.
