Much Deserved Senior Awards

Sydney Buck

Sydney Buck - CEM Oustanding Senior

Sydney chose CEM because it allowed her to earn a technical engineering degree while gaining management experience. She loves how the construction industry has many unique job opportunities, on-site and in the office, and that she can work anywhere in the world.

Sydney has accepted a full-time position at Arup as a Cost Consultant in New York City.

“My most memorable moment was joining The Rwanda Project my sophomore year where I assisted with the design and construction of a transportable storage latrine and compost facility in Rilima, Rwanda. Using my technical skills to help another community was such a rewarding experience,” shared Sydney

Sydney is a CEM Ambassador, member of Contemporary Dance Ensemble, CMAA at VT, and Building Women in Construction. She is also a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, and Sigma Lambda Chi: Construction Honors Society.

“I will also always remember the many hours spent in Bishop-Favaro hall with fellow students studying for tests and completing projects. I have made so many great friends through the CEM Program and have shared so many laughs in BFH. I am excited now to see us all succeed and to come back for Hokie football!”

Brandon Mueller - BC Outstanding Senior

Brandon chose BC because he is an individual who enjoys immediate feedback and a sense of accomplishment after a project has been completed. “I liked how easy it was to network with individuals in the industry and the opportunities that are available through internships. Students are set up for success and almost always graduate with multiple full-time employment offers,” shared Brandon.

Brandon has signed full-time with Henderson Inc. in Williamsburg, VA where he will be pursuing a career as a Project Engineer.

Throughout college he has been a viable asset in the BuildLab. “While working in the BuildLab, I really enjoyed and will never forget the students and individuals who would stop in the lab between classes or before and after work. There were always great conversations and many lessons learned throughout my three years of working with the department.”
