Join us for virtual capstone presentations
The main objective of the capstone project is to simulate the competitive Design-Build (DB) process, where the Owner will select a DB partner based on evaluation of competitive bid proposals and final project interviews (Capstone Day presentations). In this simulation, student teams represent the construction side of the DB entity (i.e. the primary contractor) and MLSoC Industry Partners represent the Owner. Industry Partners will evaluate the performance of each team to select the first-, second-, and third-place teams.
Building Construction (BC) and Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) capstone classes completed separate projects. We have designated two days for the student teams to present their bid proposals. We invite you to participate in either or both days.
CEM Capstone
CEM students worked on two exciting projects this year! The first project, sponsored by Flatiron Construction, involved preconstruction planning for a 2.4-mile-long bridge along N.C. 12 in Rodanthe, NC. Then, after researching unique design and construction considerations along the North Carolina coast, students proposed their own development projects in the Rodanthe community. Projects varied in scope, scale, and purpose, and offered students the opportunity to work on a project of their choosing. Read overview
BC Capstone
Design, preconstruction services and construction of a 21st Century two story elementary/middle school for the Maryland Stadium Authority and Baltimore City Public Schools. The 21st Century school building sponsored by The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company includes, but is not limited to, space adaptability for teaching, learning, and community usage, cutting-edge learning technology, and environmental sustainability. Abetment and demolition of existing school and cutting and removal some of the deep foundation piles is part of the scope of work. Read overview
