The Myers-Lawson School of Construction students are comprised of Building Construction and Construction Engineering and Management majors. Building Construction students graduate from the College of Architecture and Urban Studies whereas Construction Engineering and Management students graduate from the College of Engineering. John R. Lawson, Executive Chairman of W.M. Jordan, has been named 2018’s Virginia Business Person of the Year. Lawson was a graduate of Virginia Tech’s Class of ’75 with a degree in geophysics and provided part of the endowment to form the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech in 2006. W.M. 38 students, faculty and staff members associated with the Myers-Lawson School of Construction traveled to Peachtree, Georgia to compete at the Fall 2018 Associated Schools of Construction Student Competition. Virginia Tech competition teams included a Heavy Team, Commercial Team, Concrete Team, Design Build Team, Shadow Team and Graduate Team. Once a semester at Virginia Tech, five students and one faculty member are recognized with Aspire! awards. Aspire! awards represent Virginia Tech’s five aspirations for student learning. Philip Agee, a PhD candidate within Virginia Tech’s Grado Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, traveled to Switzerland’s Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) to attend BEHAVE 2018. Matthew O’Neill, a senior majoring in Construction Engineering and Management, spent his summer in the place with more hours of daylight than anywhere else in the United States. Students enrolled in the BC 2044 course toured the ACME Panel in Radford, Virginia. BC 2044 is a second year core class in construction materials. This course teaches students about materials and properties that they’ll be using on the job site. Don Riblet is a senior majoring in Building Construction within the Myers – Lawson School of Construction. This past summer he interned with Kiewit. WayUp, a website for college students and recent grads seeking jobs and internships, listed Kiewit as one of the top 100 places to intern.
