
John R. Lawson, Executive Chairman of W.M. Jordan, has been named 2018’s Virginia Business Person of the Year. Lawson was a graduate of Virginia Tech’s Class of ’75 with a degree in geophysics and provided part of the endowment to form the Myers-Lawson School of Construction at Virginia Tech in 2006. W.M. Jordan is known for their work on notorious projects in Virginia and North Carolina. Some of their most known projects are the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach, Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, the 16-story Critical Care Tower at Virginia Commonwealth University and numerous buildings at Christopher Newport University and Virginia Tech. The company has never had unprofitable year and has grown substantially since the Lawson family purchased the company 34 years ago. W.M.
