About The Shockey Companies In 1896, a master carpenter named Howard Shockey went into business repairing wagons. His reputation for quality construction and his “do-it-right-the-first-time” attitude soon placed him in demand for custom home building in and around the small town of Winchester, VA. Howard quickly became known for his integrity, industriousness, and craftsmanship. In 1947, the growing company became known as Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. A ready-mixed concrete operation, Crider & Shockey, Inc., was established in the 1940s, and was sold in 2008. A precast concrete manufacturing division was added in the 1950s, it was sold in 2018. (The new owner continues to operate as The Shockey Precast Group). A real estate development company with build-to-suit capabilities was added in 1970, and today, Shockey Properties owns and manages more than two million square feet of prime commercial property in the mid-Atlantic region. Howard Shockey & Sons, Inc. is one of the largest, continuously operating construction companies in Virginia.
