Through over eighty years of history, Sargent's work mix has changed dramatically as a result of social needs. Over that time, advances in technology have changed the equipment used to perform the work.
In the 1930's and 1940's Sargent built roads and runways with steam shovels and cable-operated dozers. In the 1950's and 1960's, the company built much of the interstate and many airports with scrapers. The 1970's and 1980's ushered in the hydraulic excavator along with environmental work such as landfills, sewer collection and treatment projects, and environmental remediation. Finally, the 1990's into the new millennium brought the surge of commercial and residential projects along with Global Positioning Systems.
Today's construction is much different than when the company began; what has stayed the same over eighty years?
