National Safety Stand-Down, to Prevent Falls in Construction

This week is the National Safety Stand-Down, to prevent falls in Construction, which is designed to raise awareness of preventing fall hazards in construction. Falls is the leading cause of death for workers, and can be preventable.

As a member of the NORA Sector Council for Construction, Dr. Kleiner has involved Virginia Tech in the National Campaign for Falls Prevention.

A "Stand –Down" is a voluntary event for employers to talk directly to employees about safety, there are many ways organizations are participating around the country.

Dr. Hindman, Construction Safety Center Director of Practice-to Research and Falls Lab Director, (pictured) explains to a WDBJ 7 reporter the fall arrest system and personal protection equipment used by construction workers at elevated heights.

Dr. Hindman was joined by Dr. Carlos Evia also of the Construction Safety Center, as well as Bill Goode, Executive Vice President of the National Roofers Association. Dr. Andrew McCoy and Dr. Brian Kleiner of Myers-Lawson School of construction were also present.
