The Habitat for Humanity Virginia Tech chapter hosted its largest fundraising event of the year. Organizers, which included numerous Myers-Lawson School of Construction students, did a great job.
Over a five-day period, six qualified charity organizations built and manned a shack and actively raised funds on the plaza outside of Squires Student Center. Each team was responsible for providing materials and participants for their organization, engaging in a competitive bid to claim a patch of land for their shack, and built a shack that met the competition's safety standards.
After the events of the week that included "whack-a-shack" (the dismantling of the structures), an impressive $7000.00 was raised for Habitat for Humanity. Each participating team also was able to raise funds for their own charity. The project was a huge success and we are proud of the students and their accomplishments!
