ASC Construction Managment Competition

1200 students. 166 teams. 43 universities.

24 students from Myers-Lawson School of construction at Virginia Tech were among the 1200.

The 27th Annual Associated Schools of Construction Regions 6 & 7 Student competition is the largest construction management student competition in the nation. The teams are presented with industry provided problems to solve.

The teams had one day to solve their problem, turn in deliverables and put together a presentation that would be presented to the problem sponsor on day 2 of the competition. Their solution contained several components including estimate, schedule and construction means and methods. The LEED team also analyzed how to gain LEED points for their project.

The Sustainable Building and LEED Team, placed second and consisted of Ben Carpenter, Rex Holmes, Justin Rjadhayaksha (captain), Tim Reddick, Andrew McNulty, and Alek Leckszas. Their problem was sponsored by Skanska.

The Preconstruction Services Team also placed second. Its members were: Tim Gross, Andrew Adams (captain), Patrick Pennell, Tyler Edwards, John Duffy, and Cindy MacCaulay. PCL Construction was sponsor for their problem.

Brett Dietrick (captain), Travis Nice, David Henderson, Mike Cross, Emma Kellar, and Ali Schreck made up the concrete team and their problem was provided by Sundt. The concrete team placed 4th.

For the first time a Virtual Design and Construction Team was assembled. The members were: Jeff Bonica, Jason Allred, Kyle Creasey, Nick Swedberg, Andrew Minafo, and Melissa Peebles. Virtual Design also placed second.
